CNN —A passenger on an Alaska Airlines flight this month repeatedly tried to open the cockpit door, prompting flight attendants to barricade the door and have the man restrained until landing, court documents filed in federal court allege. Jones got up from his seat several times during the flight and made three attempts to go to the front of the plane and open the cockpit door, an air marshal wrote in an affidavit. When a flight attendant asked why he tried to access the cockpit, Jones replied that he “was testing them,” the affidavit reads. The cockpit was locked down and barricaded with a beverage cart for the remainder of the flight, according to the affidavit. The passenger had tried to access the cockpit in a “nonviolent manner” and “appeared confused,” Alaska Airlines said on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Before House Speaker Mike Johnson was elected to public office, he was the dean of a small Baptist law school that didn't exist. “The law school deal was really an anomaly. As dean of the proposed law school, Johnson embarked on a major fundraising campaign and described a big-dollar event in Houston with former Arkansas Gov. Bobby Jindal and Pressler, according to an account Johnson wrote in a 2011 alumni magazine. Meanwhile, the historic former federal courthouse in Shreveport that was selected as the law school’s campus required at least $20 million in renovations.

Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton got questions about the same topic more often than he could remember this summer: The money, the money, the money. There are players with bigger salaries, even players with larger extensions — for example, Boston's Jaylen Brown signed one that could be worth $304 million this summer. But for players like Haliburton, Edwards, Ball and Bane, this is a new chapter. Haliburton, Edwards, Ball and Bane will average about that much in annual salary for the foreseeable future starting in the 2024-25 season. (Edwards will make about $13.5 million this season, Ball about $11 million, Haliburton about $6 million and Bane around $3.9 million.)

In it, the Haitian-born filmmaker of “Lumumba,” “Sometimes in April” and some of the most thoughtful, prodding essay-film documentaries, chronicles the story of the Reels family in North Carolina. The land, known as Silver Dollar Road, has been in the family since the days of Reconstruction, when their ancestors were freed from slavery. In Peck’s hands, the film stays close to the Reels’ experience and to the land; images of vines that wrap the family tree seem to grow out of the forests of Silver Dollar Road. There’s no way you can recover.”Instead, any villain in “Silver Dollar Road” is faceless. To feel at home and to feel at ease, not to be afraid that there would be something that would aggress them.”Peck was in Toronto to premiere “Silver Dollar Road” at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Tiny Craft Mapping Superstorms at Sea Shortly after dawn on Sept. 30, 2021, Richard Jenkins watched a Category 4 hurricane overrun his life’s work. That August, a sister ship, SD 1031, successfully entered Tropical Storm Henri, but only in its early stages. Hurricane research, modeling and forecasting requires many terabytes of data for every square mile the storm passes through, including vitally important sea-level data from inside a storm. The next day, the depression was upgraded to a tropical storm and officially given the name Sam. And four months later, Tropical Storm Megi killed more than 150, wiped out several villages with landslides and displaced more than a million people.
CNN —Nima Momeni, the man accused of killing Cash App founder Bob Lee in San Francisco, intends to plead not guilty next week, his attorney said. “We believe that we have sufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Momeni murdered Bob Lee,” Jenkins said. Alleged conversations between Lee and MomeniBob Lee cofounded the mobile payment service provider Cash App. Lee had told Momeni nothing inappropriate happened, according to the document. “Momeni forcefully grabbed her right upper arm and her right side waist area,” Officer Johnson wrote in the report, according to the Chronicle.
A Florida sheriff stunned many of his constituents this week by appearing to endorse spanking students, his comments coming during a press conference in which county officials announced plans to tighten discipline in Brevard County schools. Sheriff Wayne Ivey spins the "Wheel of Fugitive" board at the Brevard County Sheriffs Office in 2017. And he is a Brevard County political powerbroker who helped get two Republicans, Megan Wright and Gene Trent, elected to the county school board. Shortly after they were sworn in Nov. 22, Wright and Trent teamed up with school board chair Matt Susin to oust longtime superintendent Mark Mullins. There was agreement among the Brevard County school officials interviewed that disruptive students are a problem in the system.
“We had the exact same story and the exact same company — VineBrook Homes,” Allen told NBC News. VineBrook Homes Trust Inc., which owns over 3,000 single-family homes in the Cincinnati area, is one of the most aggressive landlords in bringing eviction proceedings against its residents, they say. A big institutional owner of over 24,000 single-family homes in mostly lower-income areas, VineBrook Homes is a real estate investment trust (REIT) with properties in 18 states, including Alabama, Indiana, Missouri and Mississippi. “I left in Dec. 2021,” Jenkins told NBC News. Vinebrook Homes owns over 3,000 single-family homes in the Cincinnati area, including many in suburbs like North College Hill.
Two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide at the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. No suspects were being sought, Dallas County Sheriff Marian Brown said at a news conference. The shooting appeared to be a murder-suicide, Clay Jenkins, the judge, or chief executive, of Dallas County, said at the scene. Some social media users are saying that David DePape, the suspect in the Oct. 28 attack on Paul Pelosi told investigators that the two engaged in sexual relations and argued over drugs without providing proof of the claim. One Twitter user sharing the claim said, “David Depape tells investigators that he and Paul Pelosi were engaging in gay sex and an argument ensued over drugs” (here). The Department of Justice released the criminal complaint and affidavit (here) detailing the attack on Paul Pelosi at his residence. Reuters found no credible news reports that proved DePape told investigators he was involved with Paul Pelosi before the attack ensued. There’s no evidence to back claims that DePape told investigators that he and Paul Pelosi had engaged in sexual relations or argued over drugs.
However, law enforcement officials told Reuters that Paul Pelosi and the suspect, David DePape, were the only two people at the Pelosi residence when police responded. Another Facebook user repeated the claim and said, “Clearly, a third person opened the door” (here). DePape, 42, is accused of attacking Paul Pelosi, 82, with a hammer after forcing his way into the couple’s home in San Francisco on Oct. 28. It said DePape told the SFPD in a recorded interview that Paul Pelosi “ran over and opened” the door when police knocked. Officials told Reuters that there was no third person present during the attack at the Pelosi residence.
She said that she did not see herself reflected on other dance teams on campus. The history of majorette-style dance teamsStarting in the 1960s, majorette dance teams became popular at HBCUs for their high energy movements that infuse jazz, West African and hip-hop dance styles. The majorette dance teams often perform alongside a marching band in glittery outfits while doing flips in the air or showcasing other gymnast moves. Those performances, usually held at HBCU football games and homecoming events, were an opportunity for majorette dance teams to show off their skill and even battle with rival schools. Another coach for the team, Princess Alintah, agreed, saying groups like the USC Cardinal Divas show that majorette dance teams are not monolithic.
